Pianta, NOT Piñata, consists of Michael Algarra on bass, vocals, electric and acoustic guitar
Nick Oriold on electric guitar and vocals
and Lucas Naylor on percussion and vocals and is operating as an indie-rock group located in Philadelphia, PA. (Or also known as The Pianta Village)
A simple yet effective debut single, "Aliens" opens with a clean guitar tone and is quickly greeted by the perfectly synchronized drums offering a helping hand. This prompts a distant, spacey, and crunchy (but not TOO crunchy) lead guitar riff that will manifest itself into an earworm before the song has concluded. Now enters the main vocals, coming in with memorable, yet minimalist, lyrics to ensure you'll be singing along to all the words after only a few listens.
"You're lost now
Change my mind
You're a star
in my sky
in my eyes
Now I know
I won't find my home
in a girl like you"
Sung like true indie-rock, making sure to capture the patented chill vocals the genre is known for, while still being dominant and well-enunciated. The vocals are masterfully aligned with the rest of the mix, not overpowering, and absolutely not difficult to hear whatsoever; lasting just long enough to bring back the lovely clean electric guitar before everything picks back up and acquaints us with familiarity. However, on it's second time around, we are pleased to welcome additional background vocals and echoes as well as some classic "ooo"s that bring the piece together. Not to mention the thankless job of the bass guitar, working overtime to fill the mix with groovy lines. While not demanding our attention, the bass does more than enough to keep us intrigued. As the song comes to a close, we follow the clean guitar we have grown to love, paired with a fast paced ticking of a tambourine. The guitar ends with a a held out strum that melds into a watery, raygun, space blaster of a sound that fades out and brings this extraterrestrial tune full circle.
"Aliens" by Pianta is a wonderful introduction to the band, allowing us to get comfortable with their sound before jumping in the deep end. It was released on September 1st, 2024, and sitting at 2 minutes and 20 seconds, it does not overstay it's welcome, and it avoids redundancy with the perfect amount of repetition.
I look forward to seeing what else Pianta brings to the table in the future!
